Healthy sweet breakfast for the weight loss.

Oh my!… You may be thinking: ‘Chocolate for a breakfast??? No way it is going to help me shed the stubborn pounds off…’ Good news! Keep reading and you may get surprised how simple changes can make your morning oatmeal bowl FIT! If you are aiming for a weight loss or just looking for a healthier way to start your day, these five tips below may give you some new perspective.

You may be thinking ‘Chocolate… nah, thanks! I’d rather stay with my porridge and skimmed milk’ for the breakfast. And I will tell you, ‘fair enough’, I understand your concerns.

So if you imagine that you can have delicious, sweet and satisfying breakfast that will decrease your hunger, most importantly stop you from snacking, would you wanted to give it a go? Besides that, it would provide you with only 330 calories including 20 grams of proteins, satisfying your sweet tooth for longer… It would also have only 13 gram of sugar per bowl and astonishing 11 gram of fibre. Numbers may not tell you much but recommended daily value of fibre per day is around 25 – 35 grams. Would you be surprised if I tell you that in England, on average, a woman gets only 12.8 grams of fibre per day?! But let’s focus on my 5 secret TIPS behind creating a perfect, healthy and satisfying breakfast.

So… How to make your healthy breakfast GUILT-FREE?

Tip number one – implement more proteins! Why? Because proteins help you lose weight by boosting your metabolic rate. They also reduce your appetite so you won’t feel like snacking so often. Most importantly proteins are building blocks of muscles, and as you remember the secret of the leanest athletes in the world from the previous post ‘Why Dieting Doesn’t Work?’ – the more muscle mass you have got, the more calories you burn! Yay!

Why I am teasing you with the melted chocolate on the picture? Because a healthy diet (that with time will become a lifestyle) can be sustainable only when you enjoy it! A small square of dark chocolate is not going to make you fat, but will give you enough variety to make you feel satisfied! So tip number two – variety is the key! A teaspoon of peanut butter, fresh fruit or dark chocolate in a small amount can do the magic! Be adventurous. Eat the rainbow and enjoy it fully! Just mind the amount as the whole chocolate bar is not going to serve you well 😉

Next question you may want to ask is: ‘So how I make my oatmeal sweet without adding extra calories?’ Answer is – to use 0 calories sweetener! And that’s my tip number three! Best choices I have been successfully using in my kitchen for the past three years is powdered stevia and erythritol. They bring you the right amount of sweetness, fully satisfying your sweet tooth. Therefore you will finish your breakfast with a smile on your face and feel of no guilt whatsoever!

All right, you know that fruit is a good choice as a topping, but which fruit to choose?

The ones that are the highest in fibre and lowest in natural sugar! and that’s the tip number four! Why? Because fibre is a type of carbohydrate that is not digested by the body and has no calories! Therefore it fills you up for longer, helping with digestion. Which fruits are best then? On the podium, we have got avocado – with 10 gram of fibre per cup and only 1 gram of sugar, next raspberries with 8 gram of fibre and 4 gram of sugar and blackberries (around 7.6 gram of fibre per cup and 7 gram of sugar).  Fruits apart from fibre have got many more health benefits. But let’s move to the last bit…

What is the tip number five?! Choose wholegrain complex carbohydrates that will help you release energy slower. If oatmeal – avoid instant one! Aim for wholegrain version as it will provide you with the energy for longer without causing sugar spikes. If bread – choose the wholegrain option with a minimum amount of the ingredients on the label. I buy wholemeal German Rye Bread with no sugar added. Little change, but may make you feel like a Duracell Bunny rather than like a Zombie hunting nearby cookies 😉

Well… You know all my secret tips on how to make breakfast sweet, healthy and guilt-free.
